THE WOMEN'S AND MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETED AT THE EYEOPENER CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL THIS PAST SATURDAY IN SPARTANBURG, SC.  THE WOMENS TEAM FINISHED 11TH IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION OUT OF 45 TEAMS AND WERE LED BY MADISYN PAGE’S 36TH PLACE FINISH.  SHE WAS FOLLOWED BY ASHLYN HAA--51ST, LINZEE MITCHEL--94TH, KATIE SIMOND--100TH, CAROLINE MCKINNIS--125TH, MOLLY WRIGH--149TH, AND MAGGIE RAMO--222ND TO WIND OUT THE TOP SEVEN.  THE MEN FINISHED 3RD OUT OF 55 TEAMS IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION AND WERE LED BY NATHAN SIA--16TH.  HE WAS FOLLOWED BY JESUS PACHECO--23RD, CHRISTIAN HENRY--56TH, LUIS HERNANDEZ--60TH, TRENT LOVELACE--84TH, PATRICK LIPOSKY--84TH, AND RICARDO FLORES--181ST TO WIND OUT THE TOP SEVEN GUYS.  THE JV BOYS TEAM FINISHED 4TH OUT OF 50 TEAMS AND WERE LED BY JESSIE RAMOS’S 29TH PLACE FINISH.  CONGRATULATE THEM WHEN YOU SEE THEM.  THEY WILL RACE AT THE PANTHER CREEK ALLCOMERS TODAY AT PANTHER CREEK.

 

Fellowship of Christian Athletes meets every Tuesday morning at 7:25 in Mrs. Blakely's room, 460. Anybody is welcome to come. 

Art Club/National Art Honor Society will meet in Mrs. Reed’s Room (Room 531), Wednesday, Sept. 5, 3:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Any student interested in joining the Tennis team this year, needs to be at the Country Club, Tuesday, Sept. 11, right after school. 

Attention new and current Beta Club and NHS members:  The first Beta and NHS meeting of the year will be September 11.  The meeting will be in the library beginning at 3:05.  Any student receiving an invitation to join Beta or NHS needs to turn in money and paperwork today.  Please see Mrs. Sarah Bowen or Mrs. Nicole Owens for details.

Are you considering a military career?  The 9th annual Military Service Academy Day, hosted by Congressman Phil Roe, will be held Saturday, September 8, at Kingsport Center for Higher Education, in Kingston, TN.  Registration will being at 9:00 a.m.  Representatives from US Air Force Academy, US Coast Guard Academy, US Merchant Marine Academy, US Military Academy, US Navel Academy, as well as representatives from Army, Air Force, and Navy ROTC will be available to speak with on this special day.  For more information call 423-247-8161 or email Tracie.OHara@mail.house.gov.

Registration for the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is due in the counseling office before Sept. 10.  The test will be at West High October 24.  Academically talented Juniors should take this exam in order to participate in the National Merit Competition.  Academically talented Sophomores may take the test for practice.  The cost of the test is $16. 

The Tusculum University Upward Bound Program is now accepting applications.  Upward Bound is an intensive college preparatory program designed to help students succeed in high school and prepare for success in college.  UB offers enrichment activities and academic assistance as well as a residential summer component for students.  All services are FREE for students that are selected for the program.  For more information or for an application, stop by the guidance office.  All interested freshmen and sophomores are encouraged to apply.
