All homecoming court candidates must turn in their signed contract and bio sheet to Ms. Cobb in room 470 by 3pm today.  You will not be allowed to participate in homecoming events if these are not received on time. 

Niswonger applications are due to the counseling office today.

There will be an Inventor's Club meeting today.  This meeting is for existing members as well as anyone who would like to join the Inventor's club.  The meeting will begin at 3:10 and go until 4:00.  

Students taking the ACT tomorrow, Sept. 8, will be able to enter the building at 7:30.  Please bring pencils, photo ID and calculators. 

Any student interested in joining the Tennis team this year, needs to be at the Country Club, Tuesday, Sept. 11, right after school.

Attention new and current Beta Club and NHS members:  The first Beta and NHS meeting of the year will be September 11.  The location of the meeting has changed, so please see Mrs. Bowen for information. 

Are you considering a military career?  The 9th annual Military Service Academy Day, hosted by Congressman Phil Roe, will be held tomorrow, September 8, at Kingsport Center for Higher Education, in Kingston, TN.  Registration will being at 9:00 a.m.  Representatives from US Air Force Academy, US Coast Guard Academy, US Merchant Marine Academy, US Military Academy, US Navel Academy, as well as representatives from Army, Air Force, and Navy ROTC will be available to speak with on this special day.  For more information call 423-247-8161 or email

Registration for the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is due in the counseling office before Sept. 10.  The test will be at West High October 24.  Academically talented Juniors should take this exam in order to participate in the National Merit Competition.  Academically talented Sophomores may take the test for practice.  The cost of the test is $16.   

The Governor William Blount Scholars Program is an opportunity for interested students to learn more about history through hands-on experiences.  Meetings will take place throughout the semester at the Blount Mansion in Knoxville.  This year's topics include open hearth cooking, timber framing and Cherokee history.  The first session will take placed on Thursday, September 13, at 5:30.  Interested students should see Mr. Moreland in room 700 for an application.

Picture retakes for ALL students, including Seniors, will be October 3.  Any student or faculty member that did not have their picture taken may do so on this date.  Seniors will have a $25 sitting fee that covers the cost of the proofs and the use of the formal attire.  Only students that purchased pictures and did not like their pictures should come to the auditorium for retakes.  You will need to bring your pictures back to the photographer to have them remade.
