Course Syllabus

Course Objectives: This course will cover the Hamblen County curriculum for Algebra 2. The curriculum contains the following Tennessee Standards: mathematical process, number and operations, algebra, geometry and measurement, data analysis, statistics, and probability.

Methods of Instruction: Instruction will include teacher lecture, student note-taking, classroom discussion/participation, small groups, homework, working problems on the board, activities, and cooperative learning.

Grading/Evaluation:

1.      Homework/ Class work: homework is due at the beginning of class. Unless otherwise stated, no credit will be given to problems with no answers.   Homework is designated to give the students practice.   If a student is absent it is their responsibility to find out what they’ve missed. Students will have the number of days missed plus a day to turn in work when absent.

2.      Tests/ Quizzes: Tests will cover material from notes, homework, and in class activities. If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to make arrangements to make up a test.

3.      The grading scale is as follows: A = 93-100; B = 85-92. C = 75-84; D = 70-74;

     F = 0-69.

Materials

(Students must be prepared each day by making sure they have the following things):

1.      Pencil/Pen

2.      Paper

3.      Text Book

4.      Calculator

Classroom Procedures:

·         Come to class each day ready to learn.

·         When entering the room:

1.      Come in quietly

2.      Have all of your materials

3.      Begin working on your bell ringer.

·         Respect: Yourself, Classmates, Instructor

If a student chooses to break a rule:

First Consequence- Warning

Second Consequence- 15 Minute Detention

Third Consequence- 30 Minute Detention

Fourth Consequence- Parents Contacted and 30 Minute Detention

Fifth Consequence- Office Referral

Severe Disruption: Student sent immediately to Administrator (Sever disruption is defined as overt refusal to follow teacher’s instructions, fighting, vandalism, behavior which stops the class from functioning.
