THE MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETED IN THE INTERMOUNTAIN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE LAST NIGHT AT CARSON-NEWMAN'S MOSSY CREEK PARK IN JEFFERSON CITY.   THE Ladies WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP AND WERE LED BY ASHLYN HAAS'S 2ND PLACE FINISH.  SHE WAS FOLLOWED BY LINZEE MITCHELL---5TH, MOLLY WRIGHT---13TH, KATIE SIMONDS---14TH, CAROLINE SPAIN---17TH, EMMA MITCHELL---25TH, AND ABIGAIL WILKERSON---35TH TO ROUND OUT THE TOP 7.   HAAS AND MITCHELL GARNERED ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS FOR THE LADIES.   THE MEN WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP OF 8 TEAMS AS WELL AND WERE LED BY JESUS PACHECO'S 2ND PLACE FINISH.  HE WAS FOLLOWED BY TRENT LOVELACE---5TH, PATRICK LIPOSKY---7TH, CHRISTIAN HENRY---8TH, LUIS HERNANDEZ---9TH, NATHAN SIA---11TH, AND  ABRAHAM FLORES---17TH TO ROUND OUT THE TOP SEVEN.   PACHECO, LOVELACE, LIPOSKY, HENRY, AND HERNANDEZ TOOK 5 OF THE TOP TEN ALL-CONFERENCE SPOTS.   CONGRATULATE THEM WHEN YOU SEE THEM THEY WILL RUN NEXT AT THE REGION I CHAMPIONSHIPS IN GRAY AT DANIEL BOONE HIGH SCHOOL NEXT THURSDAY.

This is a reminder that Senior Night participants need to line up underneath the Jumbotron at 6:40 tonight!

Attention all UT Engineering Day Participants- Please pick up a permission slip from Mrs Sedlack or Mrs Dallemagne as soon as Possible.

There will be an Inventor's Club meeting today, October 19, at 3:00 in Mr. Hawkin's room.

Attention Seniors:  If you have not had your senior pictures taken, you have one last chance on Tuesday, October 23.  You will be called to the auditorium by last name.

Calling all artists!  All students are encouraged to enter the  Early Postsecondary Week art contest. The competition is to design a logo for West High to promote the many ways students can earn postsecondary credit.  These include advanced placement, dual enrollment, and industry certification.  Flyers are posted around our campus.  See your art teacher or Mr. Moreland for more information. The deadline is Tuesday, October 23, and the winner will receive a $35.00 Amazon gift card.

We have a few PSAT tests available.  This will be for Juniors for National Merit.  If any are still available at the end of the week, we will open it to Sophomores.  Please come by the counseling office to register.  The test is $16 and will be given on October 24.  If you are already registered to take the PSAT on the 24th, please pick up a student guide in the counseling office.

Attention all Hispanic and Latino students:  The annual Hispanic Student Day at ETSU is October 24.  Please pick up your permission form in the guidance office.  Return the form to guidance, as well.  There are 35 spaces available.  Preference is given to juniors and select sophomores.  Forms are due October 22.

Calling all book lovers!  The public library has started a Teen Book Club.  The first meeting will be at Morristown Hamblen Public Library, Thursday,  Oct. 25, from 4-5 p.m.  The book for this month is "Pipestone:  My Life in an Indian Boarding School," by Adam Fortunate Eagle.  Get your free copy at the upper level circulation desk at the public library before copies run out! 

Attention Beta Club and NHS members: Beta and NHS will participate in Boo Fest at Fred Miller Park, on October 29.  Please bring in candy to Mrs. Bowen or Mrs. Owens ASAP.  Members needing service hours may volunteer at Boo Fest and Mountain Makins. Sign-up sheets are outside Mrs. Bowen's room.  Also, please drop off toiletry items for the service project to either to Mrs. Bowen or Mrs. Owens now through Thanksgiving.

 

This year the West High Yearbook Staff would like members of the student body to send us the photos they have taken so they can be used in the yearbook.   The yearbook staff is holding a contest to encourage students to send in their photos.  The student with the best photo will win a free yearbook and be featured with their photo in the book.  We are looking for a variety of photos, including:  vacation/summer, student body section, sports, after-school clubs, extra-curricular activities, homecoming week, prom, trends, jobs, social media posts, any other major school event that will take place this year.  All photos must be school-appropriate, must be submitted by January 15, 2019, must not be any image or logo that is a copyright, registered trade mark or belongs to someone other than themselves., must be the work of the person submitting the photo, and must be relevant to school or school interests. To download photos directly to a place where the yearbook staff can access them, simply download the Balfour Image Share app and use our program code, 929306, to upload your photos.  Please make sure all photos are school-appropriate and are submitted by the deadline of January 15.  For more information, feel free to pick up the Photo Contest information sheet in the yearbook room, 447, or outside Mrs. Cutshaw's room, 482.  The West High Yearbook Staff does not pledge and does not guarantee that any photo submitted will be used in the book. If you have concerns about the content of your photo, please see a responsible adult and confirm their approval before sending that photo in. 

 

Please remember, a 1010 form must be requested in the front office 3 days in advance for your driver's PERMIT.  The first form for the school year is free, $3.00 charge thereafter.  1010 form is NOT required for driver's LICENSE, unless your driver's PERMIT is out of state.
