DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America. “DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.” (

 Feb. 3 the District 5 Regional DECA competition was held at the Knoxville EXPO Center. West High’s DECA club entered a total of sixteen competitors. Twelve of those competitors qualified for state. Congratulations to all of the following students:
Emily Medford competed in the Apparel and Accessories Marketing Services and placed 3rd on the test. She placed 1st in role  play and 2nd overall.

Angel Rodriguez placed 7th overall in the Business Service Marketing Category.
The team of Gavin Belfry and Camryn Sprouse placed 1st overall in Marketing Management Team Decision Making, They achieved 3rd on the test, and 1st in role play. Heidi Campbell competed in the Principles of Hospitality and Tourism. She received 2nd on the test and role play, and received 2nd overall.

Claire Allison and Carson Eskew earned 3rd on the Buying and Merchandising Team Decision Making test, and got 4th overall. Ana Hernandez placed 5th overall in the Food Marketing services event. Kelley Wilder competed in the Quick Serve Restaurant Management and placed  3rd in role play and 4th overall. Lexi Menees placed 3rd in Retail Merchandising role play, and got 8th place in the whole category. Dhilan Ramaprasad, East Tennessee DECA Vice President, and his partner Guillermo Leon, Received 1st overall in the Hospitality Services Team Decision Making event. They placed 1st in the role play and on the test.
